All my audio engineering friends have recommended me to switch to TI.

Maybe they have not read IF-FW/DM mkII manual:

VIA chipsets are widely used and are a good match for the IFFW/
DM MKII.
The IF-FW/DM MKII has been noted to perform badly with some
NEC and TI branded chipsets.

Actually the latest FW driver readme notes are more specific and contradict what the manual says. I used a TI chipset TI TSB43xxx just fine in my XP box and a TI XIO22xxx in my current.

FireWire Chipsets
The following chipsets recommended for all channel count and FS combinations.
• Agere/LSI FW323, FW643
• VIA VT6315, VT6330
• TI TSB43xxx, TSB82xxx, TSB83xxx, XIO22xxx
Other chipsets have been noted to have audio dropouts or connection issues.
