I hope everyone had a good holiday season .... I'm getting back to my music after settling in on a new job/training etc, since the last time I was on the forum so now that I have time I have cranked up my Protools 10 and my DM3200. I've added some screen shots of my routing and my Aux's. The problem I'm having is I am unable to record into Protools and hear from my head phones. The main outs for the headphone amp are going to the assignable sends 1 & 2. I can hear through my headphones on some pre recorded tracks that I have but on new recording I can't. Since I have been absent from my studio I know it one thing that I'm overlooking and it's killing me

All recorded tracks are being sent to aux 1 and 2? Are your live inputs that your recording being sent to aux 1 and 2?

Sorry for the delayed response - work as been keeping me real busy and now I freed up and ready to get going in my studio..... If your meaning Aux 1 & 2 are the main out 1 & 2 in PT10 than yes the diagrams that I've posted shows how my routing is set up.... I can hear through my head phones previous recorded music but I can't record into PT10. If you can - can you screen shot the routing for Aux 1 & 2 on the DM ..... I know I got something not set please advise.

Let's get back to a basic question. I'm trying to follow what your problem is exactly.

Forget headphone mixes and AUX sends for now, can you record new tracks to PT? If not you need to sort that out first before anything.

Screens look fine to me. I think whatever the issue you have starts with the DAW. If you can't recording anything in PT, on the channel you are trying to record, are you sure that you are choosing the correct input source through your FireWire card?

Everything is working now ... just needed a break from it and gathered my thoughts .... went back over the post when I first started, this past Sunday than everything clicked. Once I did that it was an I/O issue. So thanks ...... I have never gotten my midi to work so that is what I'm tackling next and just to give some insight.... I have a USB Midisport 8x8 I was using under my previous setup prior to purchasing my DM3200, can I use it in conjunction with the DM3200, is there a certain way to set it so I can record MIDI into PT10. ...again thanks for the assistance.

You have the firewire card yes? You are supposed to be using the MIDI IN on the firewire card to record MIDI in DAW. I use that and also one of those cheap USB to MIDI cables

Yes I have a firewire card … Midi IN on the firewire card and the USB to Midi cable will be used for the Midi OUT on the firewire card with the USB connecting to the Midisport 8x8 – am I understanding this correctly?

I'mm not sure what you're trying to accomplish via MIDI. Is it simply that you have an external MIDI keyboard controller and you want to trigger VST instruments? If that's the case you can do:

1. MIDI out from your MIDI controller to MIDI IN of the firewire card

Why do you need the MIDI SPORT 8x8 unless you have lots of external MIDI gear?
If that's the case then just configure the drivers with your computer and choose the 8x8 directly from the DAW as the MIDI controller.

Yes I have several external MIDI gear. As it is currently configured my MIDI gear is connected to the 8x8 which is USB to the computer, connection wise do the 8x8 connect to the firewire port on the DM in order for the DM to recognize the 8x8 as the controller

Unless you're looking for the DM to execute program changes to your MIDI gear, then there's no reason for the DM to know of your MIDI SPORT. If you simply want the gear connected to the MIDI SPORT to control various VST instruments in your DAW, then the configuration lies within your PC/Mac drivers and your DAW.

Maybe I'm missing information about what you want achieve by using the MIDI SPORT device and why the need for the DM to communicate with it. Are you looking to execute program changes from the DM to any of your MIDI controllers? Maybe your MIDI devices are sound modules? I don't know.

The MIDI ports on the firewire card are there for those who don't already have a MIDI interface on their computer. You already do (that's not to say you couldn't use them in tandem with another interface).

Honestly, any answer here depends on your specific functional requirements.

ok thanks I guess I got confused when you stated "choose the 8x8 directly from the DAW as the MIDI controller"

I use the same Midisport 8x8 in my setup, but there's no communication whatsoever with the DM - and I don't see a need for it either. Glad it still works via USB though..
