Does anyone know if there could be any issues going from an ASUS laptop firewire port (4 pin DV style) to the normal Firewire port (6 pin) on my IF-FW/DM mkii card
I didn't think so.. just trying to sift through my issues with my windows 7 asus laptop with a firewire port going into a Tascam dm4800 with a If-fw/Dm mkii card... Card is fine... I think the issues are on the computer end..
My DM is working with both Windows 7 and Mac OSX 10.5 using a 15ft 4 to 6 pin FW cable. I strongly doubt compatibility is an issue although your cable may be damaged?
I am using a brand new cable. I was thinking the cable also, but the DM only shows cable unconnected when I unplug the cable, so it is recognizing the cable. Are you using the windows 7 (legacy) firewire driver?
Yes I am using a legacy driver. I'll try and remember to have a look tonight and let you know which one. There is a compatibility chart in a pdf doc on the tascam website. If you email me <tuviel@rocksteadyrecording.com> I can send you the exact driver I'm using tomorrow. I have all my drivers in a folder on a laptop. Good luck.
[EDIT] one other thing I remember reading is Windows machines are real particular about which FW chipset you are using. There are a few FW manufacturers with compatibility issues. I think I found that info in the DM admin guide. When I built my PC I used only the type mentioned in the manual. Macs don't have this issue. I've used the DM with two different Macs with stock FW cards and no problems. Again, good luck.
