Peter, I don't really see what you mean: USB and firewire are two different protocols? If you're looking to connect the IFFW card to the PC you'll need a Firewire cable and connection/card. the USB connection on the DM is there for remote control (=MIDI), this is a standard USB A to B.
Thank you for your response @Arjan P . The Dell Optiplex 9020 is an all-in-one PC. Unfortunately, there is no onboard Fire wire port. So, I need a way (cable perhaps) that will allow me to go from the PC via USB to the Fire wire port on the DM
I think I can safely say this is not going to work, Peter. The firewire interface on the DM-side needs to support firewire over usb. My guess is it doesn't, since there are only a few video camera's that do. And only for the video signal.
Best option would be a usb hub that also has a firewire on board. But even that could be for video purposes only.
Ah I see. Well I'm afraid Marvel is right. Even if there were a cable or box to translate FW to USB, the Tascam IFFW driver in your PC wouldn't see it as a valid connection to a DM anyway and it couldn't act as a Windows audio interface..
Thank you both for helping out. I guess what threw me somewhat was a response that I had received from Dell tech support that partially read: "you can try to use an adapter/converter which may allow you to use it as firewire port. You can check in the local tech store."
Unfortunately, because of its physical restraints, there is really no way to install a full sized Fire wire card in this unit. Back to the drawing board. Have a great day / evening gentlemen!
