Tascam Model 2400
Hi folks, almost entirely new to recording apart from bits and pieces over the years - always had someone do it for me! Jumped right in recently with the Model 2400. I have songs recorded and am ready to mix on the desk (trying to avoid a DAW). I can't seem to find any tutorials that tell me how this part is done. I'm ready to go, outboard effects on inserts, pans and eqs set....all recorded tracks set to Main and track 21/22 armed to record (and also set to main). Master bus compressor is on...when I press record it looks like something is happening and track plays with record symbol showing on screen, but not sure what to do next? Do I have to save the track at this point? I am imagining I'm missing something extraordinarily basic here so would appreciate any pointers....humble apologies for the basic question, have pity....trying avoid phoning a friend. Is there something I need to set on the screen? Or am I missing a routing step/a lead somewhere? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums. :)

I don't use any of the Model series mixers, but if you go to the forum dedicated to the Model series, you'll find in the Stickies at the top of that forum video tutorials and informational threads that will help you learn about your mixer and how to use it most effectively. The 2400 is an enhanced version of the Model 24 and Model 16.

To your specific question, your current mix on the Main Mix L/R Bus is always recorded automatically in stereo on Tracks 23/24 whenever the Rec Button is engaged (Owner Manual, Chapter 5, Section "Recording"). More on that will be found also in the "Basic Facts" informational sticky thread in the Model 24/16/12 forum.

Questions specific to your Model 2400 are best posted in the Model 24/16/12 forum to attract the attention of members who own the Model series. ;)

Thanks very much Mark, you've solved a couple of things there already. I'll head over that way - avoided it to begin with as it was a thread for different models. Much obliged.

@Twangster - as you spend some time bumping around the forums here, you’ll find a great deal of vastly useful/relevant info that is often not model specific.

When using complex gear (like TASCAM) - the more you know, the more you’ll get out of your gear!😎

@Twangster why arm tracks 21/22 if you are ready to mix? Main mix is comfortably recorded on tracks 23/24, which don't need to be armed because the Model records on them automatically every time the REC button is pressed. No need to do fancy settings, what you hear from the Main mix output is what the Model will record on tracks 23/24, just flip track input selectors to MTR and raise channel faders.
When done mixing the content of tracks 23/24 can be exported to a standard stereo wave file using the Stereo mix export function.
Read the manual or you will inevitably miss important information about your equipment.

This model is new. Typically a new forum is created not based on product releases but rather on the amount of traffic there is for a new product. We'll get there.

And - as noted in above posts - you will be very well served by becoming intimately familiar with the manual, and by browsing those Sticky Posts that are posted in previously-existing forum categories the ones in the DP-24/32 forum are great!), and much of the info and methods/approaches to workflow issues discussed are NOT model-specific and will be very helpful to you in learning to navigate/utilize this fairly complex equipment.
Good luck!

Thanks folks. Very much obliged. The manual and I are inseparable, but whilst it is a pretty good manual - to a total novice like me there are still big gaps. I think just these comments have helped no end. I was aiming at the wrong tracks for the mix - thanks for pointing out...I'll head over to the Model 12/16/24 thread for a proper nose about. Thanks again.

If it helps:
For most of us (excluding those rare few with years & years of experience w studio gear, & instinctively figure this stuff out for themselves!) - the learning curve for hi-tech gear tends to be pretty steep, especially at the beginning!

So hang in there, keep learning - you’ll be one of those smart guyz in no time!😎
