Hello,

Excuse me if this is in the wrong section, please advise if I need to move it.

I am having some difficulties with audio, my Tascam 2400 is connected to my computer using USB. The channel 1-2 are being used as my computers audio bus so I can play back my recordings and general audio through it (this works fine). It is also set up for studio mixing for an output so that my various analog synths can be recorded in my DAW(SO7 and Abelton12) , I found that the default Multi input would not output for recording (not sure why, not a professional, I knew this was a setting I needed to change on my model 12).

My issue and question is how do I record audio without it playing through my speakers and just my head phones so I am not bothering people in the household.

I can now record and hear my computer audio as needed. My issue now is that in order to record I need to have the channel button engaged to the input I am using and slider up; I also need to have the Main slider up as well so that I am outputting audio to DAW to record.

How can I make it so that I can hear the audio through my headphones while still having the sliders up for recording, but no speaker audio unless needed. Is this possible?

I have tried to PFL everything but as soon as I turn down the main I loose the output audio to computer.

I agree with you, that should do the trick, however the it doesn't matter what channel I use, the main needs to be up in order for sound output to the computer. Not sure what do?

Shutting down active monitors when mixing on headphones should be considered normal operation and not just "a trick".

If you come from Model 12 experience, you probably know the "Post REC" push button which makes possible to record Main Mix fader adjustments.
On the Model 2400 that button has been replaced by the more flexible menu option MIXER > MAIN REC POS. Chapter 9 of the Owner's Manual.

Hope it helps

Excellent! that worked thank you, I am now able to record and turn main down using the "Post Insert" function.

Can anyone explain why though in detail? I am fairly new to this stuff and would like to understand why. Am I bypassing any controls in this situation?

Chapter 9 of the Owner's Manual explains in detail what each menu option does.
See the table at point 3, then try to learn the block diagram using the part labels as a guide. Please confirm if you read the manual.

I think this makes sense. Big take away is I understand my main issue now. insert vs comp is that I am bypassing compressor section and going through master Bus.

I did not see this block diagram, thank you all for your help, I was able to learn something from this.
