tascam 32 sd
Hey guys,

I've just traded my Tascam DP - 008 (which I owned for nearly 9 years) in for aTascam 32 sd and I've encountered an issue. I'm very new to this machine so it may well be that there is a very simple fix to this, apologies if I'm just being stupid.

It seems as though one of the tracks ( Track 1 ) on my tascam is faulty, I've ruled out all standard input level/ trim issues, microphone is working as it should, SD card has been re formated etc I've also tried reassigning the track from source A to go through Track 2 where there is no issue at all, every track functions as it should so the sources are all fine.

The 'faulty' track is extremely quiet and extremely distorted when you make any kind of noise, by distortion I don't mean in a musical sense, more of a horrible intermitent crackling sound like someone struggling to put in a guitar lead whenever you make a noise. - If you dont make a noise it sounds as though the ambience starts to slowly rise up like its being heavily compressed? Yuck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this - really hoping its an easy fix !

Jacob, the very first thing you need to do with a used unit, is a complete factory reset and then you're starting with everything turned off. You can follow Phil Tippings video on how to make a reset template, but there very well could be compression inserted, from the sound of it.

With an input assigned to a track, and the track arms for record, and it's fader and the stereo Fater turned up, when you turn the Trimpot does it make noise?
