TASCAM 244 & MODEL 16
Hello! as the title says I'm looking for a clear answer as to how to export individual tracks/stems with EQ and effects (im using delay/reverb pedals for my aux send effects). Every video i've watched and post I've read just talks about bouncing a full mixdown to the stereo master track but I want effected STEMS to transfer to logic/protools for further tweaking. Do i have to record every single track (one after the other) to the stereo master in order to get it done? If i have an 8 minute song i'd reckon that'd take hours. Please let me know if you have a streamlined way of accomplishing this on a model 16.

thank you to all!

Welcome @etienne6, similar topics have been already discussed in past so my suggestion is to look in the sticky threads at the top of the forum and use the search engine to easily find previous discussions that may be of interest to you.

Quick answer: tracks on the SD cars are common .wav file, to transfer them to your PC just put the card on your computer, browse to the song folder and copy/paste the files of your interest to the PC hard disk (or SSD).

Alternatively you can connect your Model 16 in Storage Mode (see the manual) to the PC via USB, then browse to the song folder and copy/paste tracks to the PC disk.

The above methods let you duplicate tracks content as they were recorded, that is with no added FX / EQ / Compression if they were recorded clean. In my opinion if tracks are going to be mixed in a DAW it's best to have them clean for a start and apply all needed treatments in the box.

thank you for the response @Max Relic
the problem is that im wanting to mostly mix with the model 16 and use a daw just for some better reverbs and perhaps automation and more surgical eq-ing if necessary but my point of getting the model 16 was to use my computer the least amount possible!

It makes sense. You can achieve your goal proceeding by simple logical steps, knowing that it may imply some repetitive work depending on how many stems (aka submixes) you need to prepare for the mixdown.

- Adjust the tracks for the first stem
- assign them to Main
- assign FX channel to Main if desired
- push REC to print the submix on tracks 15/16
- use Menu > Stereo Mix Export (see chapter 7 of the manual)

Repeat the above steps for each submix or processed track you may want to export to DAW, but take in account that you must change the song name before repeating the above procedure or the new recording will overwrite any previous with the same name.

Hope it helps

Added later: when done with making stems the exported stereo .wav files will be ready in the MUSIC folder for DAW business.

stems (aka submixes)
A very important distinction Max. It seems that most people today refer to tracks as "stems" (a motion picture industry term that has become hobby audio jargon somehow), when they really mean tracks.

Getting tracks is easy as you just export them. Stems are submixes and with some devices, require one to make a stereo mix of only the tracks they want to exist in the stems.
