I have one question, I have just brought the tascam model 16 for my home studio. To have the volume at 0db or even -6db it has to be far too loud for my home as i have neighbours. To overcome this i thought that I would be able to use the control room monitors instead but for some reason when using these outputs as my monitors the signal is bypassing the channel faders. Do you know if there is a way to solve this?

Many thanks Lee

"Routing". Learn It. Know It. Live It.

You might wanna start w/the Block Diagram...and perhaps thoroughly read the Sticky Posts at the top of this forum category. You CANNOT expect to utilize a pro-caliber piece of equipment without knowing it through n through. There's a reason the manual is thick as a sandwich and there's a billlion ytubes about it. It's not like making PBJ's!;)

Im doing my best to learn, in the few days that i have had this mixer i have been putting in many hours trying to get to grips with it. I understand this will take much work and time and i am trying to get there as fast as possible so I can return to making music. i have figured out everything i need to know for now with routing and recording to my DAW I am just stuck on this issue and after much searching and being unable to find it in the manual I thought I would ask in the forum. If you are not willing to give me the solution could you at least tell me if this is possible?

thanks Lee

@lawilliams check if there is any PFL (Solo) button pushed, also indicated by a lit LED at the left of LCD screen.
Re. loud output volume, active speakers have a level adjustment pot so why can't you set them at say -12 dB in order to be able to listen the mix and not have the police knocking at the door?
You may also use a passive attenuator (like the Mackie Big Knob) to set a suitable listening level while keeping the mix at 0 dB. Or mix on headphones.

@Max Relic Thanks for your response. I have checked that, the PFL/AFL light is off and still the same issue.

thanks for the advice, unfortunately my monitors don't have volume controls, I will have a look into these passive attenuators.

Control Room output stage is fed either from Main mix (after fader) or Pre-Fader-Listen bus, if you are experiencing ineffective channel faders you have PFL set somewhere.
Try this:
• all recorded tracks set to MTR, assign to Main only, faders at unity (0 dB)
• Main Mix and Control Room fader at unity, press Play

• start lowering Main Mix fader, does the Control Room volume change?
• reset Main Mix fader to unity and lower all channel faders, does the volume change?

If the mix volume never changes you are listening from PFL bus. To check this turn the PFL/AFL Master pot counter-clockwise, the output volume should decrease.

@Max Relic thanks for your help Max it is very much appreciated. It is now working through through the control room monitors with faders. To be honest I think I was getting confused as the headphones follow the master and stupidly I was expecting them to follow the CR fader.

Thanks again this had been a good lesson for me

@lawilliams glad it helped! I've come to the conclusion that it takes some time to unveil the beauty of the Model series, the manual is somewhat cryptic and one must apply seriously to master the device but there is a light at the end of the tunnel ;)
Be happy making music.
