Just recently acquired an 85-16B. No matter what I do I just can't seem to find any issues with this 40+. year old machine. Minimal headwear, handles tape beautifully, sounds stellar, test tones of 50hz, 100hz, 1khz, 10khz and 15khz go in at 0VU and play back at 0VU with no wobble at all on edge tracks or any tracks. Built like a tank as well.
Trying to find out more about this machine but not much info available. Also might buy spare parts if anybody has some.

Thanks!

What kind of info you looking for? I first saw the 85-16 at NY aes in 77, bought one new, and then bought a second new in the "b" version when released in 83 or whatever.

I've been able to glean more info since my post. Guess I'm wondering what parts, if any, are interchangeable between the two models. No issues with mine at all, but as these things go, it's usually a good idea to have a spare parts stock. I wonder how many of these machines were made? I didn't even know they existed prior to my purchase and I'm fairly familiar with some of the larger multi-tracks they made. Are reel motors the same between the two, Capstan motor, etc.
Thanks for the response.
