Its also crazy buying gear for the sake of buying gear. Most people have better equipment in their houses now than the Beatles records were recorded with. don't hear too many new Sergeant Peppers tho, do we?...

Indeed. It's startling when you think about it. We've been given an unprecedented opportunity, with technology unimagined a generation ago. But - for many - it's just not quite enough. A 'mug's game,' as you've said.

It's okay, though. We live in material times and complaining about it will change nothing. As Jamsire's sig line exclaims: "Who cares? I make music."

I have always loved the sound of the MX-2424. For some reason they sound almost like analog to me. I have two of them around here and several times have considered doing something with them, maybe even daisy chaining them into the loop just to use them as a front end for Pro Tools?
