Gear owned
Tascam DP-24
I own a Tascam DP-24, I've had it since approximately 2018. I bought it used at Guitar Center. It's worked fine until my cat began sleeping on it, then ultimately barfed on it. Since, it ain't been the same. For starters, the rewind function app is failing, and some of the track activation buttons began failing.
I've been buying Tascam for over 25 years and really like tascam products. I was considering a Tascam CDR-250 instead to replace the DP-24.
I haven't decided. Needless to say, my cat is gone, ran away a few years ago, never saw him again.
I may buy another DP-24. I was considering a reel to reel.
I have a home studio so it's just me here. I track everything out, first drums, then guitar, then vocals, then more guitar.
I recently began upgrading, got a 65 fender twin reverb, and a new les paul classic.
I had a few questions about reel to reels and I guess the CDR-250.
I'm sure I'll find some answers here.
Thanks so much
Great to be in touch with you all.
Here's a link to a song I recorded in 2023,
Listen to The Streets Of Laredo by Music Medicine Show on #SoundCloud
consequently, i moved to a new home in 2024, most of my recording stuff is still in boxes.
I bought an old magnavox record cabinet that I'm converting into a studio cabinet. I removed the turntable and was going to use the space to house my mixing board. I have just began rebuilding my home studio.

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry to hear about the cat's parting gift to you. It seems to be the 'thing' nowadays to show a picture of ones gear with a cat lolled across the keyboard or mixer (in my day it was lava lamps!), so your's is a salutary tale.
Great interpretation with Streets of Laredo. Have to confess I didn't know the song so had to listen to a few examples on YouTube, but your backing has something very different & appealing (to me), almost atmospheric/hypnotic. Just needs a touch of processing on the vocals to make them stand out, but great job :)

As I mentioned, I bought a magnavox turntable cabinet, I pulled the old amp out, one project I was going to take on I figured maybe find a way to rewire the system to accomodate my studio. The volume and on/off power from the amp were wired into the radio unit, I guess I'd have to bypass the old control unit then wire out from a tascam recording devise into a VU unit first with a control knob before connecting to the amp you see in the images.

Yo Rocky and all, great to read that you owned a DP-24. I purchased on eBay, a used one, with the CD and MIDI capabilities. I guess that's standard. However, I got sick, laid off, moved to another home, and did not get a chance to more than turn it on. So, now, after a years or so, I turn it on, and all the lights, sliders, knobs, and menus all appeared to work. Yet, I can't get the sound work or the demo to work. No sound from the monitor outputs or headphone jack. Do you know of any places in the USA, in particular Virginia, 🤔 that repair these units?

Couple things to check, first did you insert a sound card? The SD card must be inserted for it to function.
Then once the card is in, it should boot up, then > new song > then inputs, assign inputs in the input function.

Hi 👋🏻,
I have the issue of not hearing the demo. The SD card is inserted properly & F4 has been pressed, I achieved checking and loaded "Song List:Demosong".
But there is no sound from the headphones or monitor. It appears everything is working properly. Yet, no sound.
Please supply your insight.

The owner manual is available for download on the TASCAM web site's "Support" section. The information and steps for playback will be found in "Section 2 - Quick Guide". No need to repeat all of that here.

Suggest you also head over to the "2488 and DP-24/32 Digital Portastudios" forum on this website and read the "New Members Please Read This" sticky thread for information critical to effective use of your DP-24 portastudio.

Your "repair" question has been addressed in the thread you started on that topic.
