Not a style of music for everyone , but I'm sharing a sample to get your opinion on mixing and mastering.
Recording
Really simple.
Takamine : 2 Shure SM57
Harmonica : Suziki SCX-48, Suziki (HMH-200 mic hold in hand). I haven't been playing for a long time.
Bass : Direct
Keyboard : Stereo direct
Drum : Played on cajon and i have converted it to midi. After, i used GoranGrooves Handy Drum Studio Standard plugin. I have exported each part (audio mono) and mixed them on Tascam.
Compressor : Original inputs preset on Tascam DP-24SD.
Mixing
100% on Tascam DP-24SD.
EQ : only by ear on Tascam no meter or analyzer.
Room : very light, DP-24SD room effect for each track. My tempo was 82 BPM, then i set a pre delay at 2.4s.
All tracks bounced on approriated group (stem).
I have desactivated all effects (EQ, compressor and room).
Final : Mixdown.
*I have used “Virtual track” tool for this project as mentionned on some posts on this forum by mjk. And yes it works vey well, super.
Mastering
Always on my DP-24SD.
Very little EQ.
Multiband compressor : i have opted for the classic preset.
I have exported my master.
Reaper
Very, very small adjustments.
Mid-Side : free Voxengo plugin.
Limiter: Fabfilter Pro L2.
I have be able to obtain -1.5 dB and -14 LUFS for steaming.
The bass has little panning to left, it works. Mark Richards had suggested it, good tip.
Could be nice to have a real room for recording but that’s not my situation. I didn’t inserted effects as chorus, delays… it sounds acoustic.
I always search a frequencies analyzer hardware to connect it to my Tascam.
I really like this machine. Maybe i’m crazy, I have buy another, it’s a new, i have tested all functions and put it in his box, i will have Tascam DP-24SD for long, long time. I hate to work on a computer.
Your opinion are welcome, thanks.
