DP24/32 FX - Definitive Summary of Effects

I’m pretty sure it should work, I was just wondering if any one else has tried it... The Guitar and Bass effects sound really good... I don’t see any reason the effect’s shouldn’t work, as long as I route it properly.. As soon as I have tested it I will report back...

It will work for sure. It'll add greatly to your capability on the DP machine.

I think my head might explode after reading through all the pinned topics.

I am preparing to master my first song/project on my DP24. I'd love to go into it feeling like I know everything I need to know, in order to get the best mix possible. But I am going to just have to dive in head-first and use my ears as my guide… play around with settings and whatnot until I find something close to what I will be proud of. Ha!

@Bourbon_In_Burbank my advice is to not use the normalizing during Mastering. Set your compression how you like it and use the makeup gain to set the output level where you want it. There is no direct correlation between dB and LUFS but a hot Master would be in the range of -9 to -7 dB. Occasional red clip lights on the DP machine seems like a normal condition so as long as they don't stay on and are very intermittent (not on every snare hit, for example) you should be good to go.

Hi Phil Tipping, I'm so glad to have found you, I listen verry carefully all your videos on youtube, I am an electro technicien and I LOVED the way you explain everything using the diagram, everything went clear in my head and now imagination is free to explore Thank you verry much Phil Tipping, Now I'm happy with my Tascam 24 :

Hi all,
I have a DP32SD that I just took to our rehearsal space. Very exciting to try it. I have one question which I can't seem to find an answer to (or maybe I just don't understand the due to a lack of knowledge). My question is regarding the he compressor, which as I understand can only be added at input level. Not track level. (I know I can add compressor at mastering stage, but I am nowhere near that yet).

What I am wondering is:
Does this mean that I can only add compression whilst recording?
Or...can I add the compressor on input A-H during playback after recording?

Thanks all of you for a lovely forum with very warm and nice tone!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
There are 2 compressors available; see this summary for details... or even post #1 in this thread! ;)
They are slightly different as regards the number of controls, but the Insert(Guitar) compressor can be applied to a track either before or after recording.
The one you are probably referring to is the one in the Dynamic effects, and as this is 'hard-wired' in the input path, it would normally only be used during recording. However, due to the flexibility of these machines, there's nothing to stop you feeding a signal from one or more pre-recorded tracks back into a spare input so the signal passes through any of these dynamic effects. This is shown in video tutorials 14A & 14B.

Thanks Phil. I was indeed referring to the dynamics effect and not the insert guitar one. Then I know it only works during actual recording, or by sending it back into another input after recording.

I’ve watched all your wonderful videos but this is the one thing (for now at least) that I wasn’t sure of.
