I've spent the last couple of days working on a custom remote setup for Reaper. Right now it does the basics, but I should be able to make it a pretty powerful remote using a couple of Reaper community tools. I was wondering how much time to sink into the project and if there was any interest.

So far...

GUI Popup (Press Flip on the DM4800) for selecting the function of Encoders, Select Buttons, Solo Buttons, Mute Buttons, and Faders.

You select the function by moving encoders, clicking the buttons, and touching faders on the DM4800.

Not all of the functions work yet....

So far Encoders... Pan, Channel Volume, Set Width, Control Sends 1-8, and control the active FX.

Select Buttons select the channels
Solos solo
Mutes mute
Faders control channel volume

Touch works but hasn't been assigned a function. I suppose its best use is to switch into automation write mode.

Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Whoa!

This is gonna make me try reaper again dammit

Dmartin do you have any favorite plugins to put on a channel when mixing?

I'll need someone willing to test soon. It would help if you were familiar with typical Reaper items like scripts and themes.

@Rockum, i could help you test out. I’m just rebuilding my home studio after a Mac hardware crash by replacing a few bcf & bcr 2000s with a dm-4800 and a new Mac. I have no real reaper scripting know-how, nor any dealings with themes beyond trying a few different ones over the years. But, if i can help, I’d be happy to. Your remote project sounds amazing.

Ok awesome. I will start putting together a package this week. Do you want to wait until it is complete or get it as it exists now providing the basics and upgrade when I add new features?

I may have put my horse ahead of my cart. . Im having some issues getting my 4800 working properly. Likely a lack of my own understanding. I presumed I would be up and running by now but I can’t seem to get a grasp on the routing (I think. I’m honestly not sure.) I thought I had a grasp of it but I can’t get any sound out of the board at all. Which is making me question my understanding of the desk. I’m in process of finding resolution. I can reach back out once I’m operational. I definitely would love to help you out. But at this point I fear I am useless without my poop in a better group. 🤷‍♂️ my apologies.

@Upton O’goode Browsing through the "Documentation and Manuals" sub-section of the DM forum can be very helpful. Not to mention the multitude of posts dealing with the same issue that you are experiencing. We've all been there at one point or another. Ask away!

thank you. I actually was able to get it all sorted thanks to the info i found on this forum. though, I am grateful for the offer to assist. I must say, the 4800 is a BEAST. pretty sure I'm in love. lol

I got it all sorted. It was in fact my own lack of understanding on the console combined with the previous owners harebrained approach to creative routing.
But at any rate, I'm definitely interested in helping you out.

I'm more than happy to help you out along the process. so, if you want to send it as it is now, id be glad to help any way i can.

I'm following your progress on this. Sounds interesting. Long time Reaper/DM user (1st the 3200 and a 4800 for the last 4 years or so). I look forward to checking this out when you get more toward a beta version. Cheers!
