DM-3200
Hello all,

New guy here, and I am the proud owner of a gently used 3200 & MU-1000. It has no firewire card. I am completely new to this board, and I use the Tracktion T6 DAW. Please forgive my ignorance, but I am at my wits end here and hopeful the good folks in this forum can provide some insight.

I want to use the 3200 as a control surface for my DAW. Am I able to do this just via USB connection or do I absolutely need the firewire card? I am unsure of which device to use for EXT.CTRL and Machine CTRL. Nothing I have tried works, the 3200 just sits there and mocks me. I would be grateful for any insight anyone may offer.

Thanks very much,
~G

Update: I've been able to get the faders, shuttle and pots working remotely! However Play, Stop, Record, etc... are still unresponsive. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,
~G

It would be helpful if you filled out your signature so we know what daw you are using because some have a slightly different set up. Then maybe someone could point you in the right direction. For example Cubase under Device setup you have to add with the + sign a Mackie Control and as midi input and output you put in midi 5 in both cases.
Then you add a 2nd Mackie Controller, select midi port 7 for midi in and out. That is how I control the DM4800 at least. There is documentation for the use of Cubase as far as hooking it up. Go to your board under Machine CTRL and add M MC Steinberg then under Ext. CTRL add 24 MC Steinberg ID 01 it should display port (5-7) and things should work fine.
If you are using cubase other daws I can not elaborate on.
Like I stated before if you fill out your signature someone will chime in if you are using a different daw. Welcome to the forum by the way.

Thanks for the response, FDR, I really appreciate it. I have updated my sig, although I did mention in my original post that I am using Tracktion T6 as my daw. I will re-visit the set up that I used last night on the DM I think I used Steinberg as well), but I will also look at the midi port numbers to confirm what I used and what I set up in my daw. Thanks again for the response!
