DP-32SD
Merry Christmas everyone. My DP-32SD is under the tree waiting to be opened and I am looking at SD cards to purchase. I have the "tested card" pdf document and there are so many choices. I'm wondering which card is the best value for speed and reliability. Anyone have a favorite?

Merry Christmas to you - you must be on the "Nice" list, to get a new '32 under your tree! 😁

If you bump around the forum - even just this category - you'll find countless posts from people (usually new users) having problems that are immediately or eventually traceable to the SD card - either incompatible/inadequate, incorrect, or just bad. So you're very wise to consult the "tested cards" list - you can't go wrong there.

Speaking for myself: I use SanDisk Extreme Pro exclusively - and have had ONE "file error" skroo-up in several years and hundreds of hours of studio-time. I have several of the U3/hi-speed cards, spedcifically only for the perceived better data-transfer speeds, as the DP operates on a nearly constant flow of data to/from the card...but I also have scads of the U1 version, and I'd suggest they work just as well/reliably.

RE - capacity: I never go above 32GB...and that holds a LOOOOT of projects. I'd imagine that the smaller the card, the quicker the time it takes for the DP to read/mount it. Frankly, the smaller capacities will probably work fine, and are a little less costly...so you can have more of them. I use several cards to keep various types of projects sorted out...originals here, covers there, experimental another, one for testing/songwriting ideas, yada.

But no matter what you use: it doesn't diminish the need for a good backup protocol - just DO it, you'll be glad you did. Don't forget either that the DP has a wonderful capability of data transfer to/from a 'puter via USB, which can greatly enhance your ability to keep up with this.

Meanwhile: as mentioned in earlier post to you: the "Sticky Posts" at the top of this category are REQUIRED reading, if you want to get up to speed with your DP. Also strongly suggest @Phil Tipping 's terrific videos.

Have fun!

Thanks again Shredd. I'm also a loyal SanDisk user. I've been searching the web for the SanDisk part #s off the Tascam tested list and many of those numbers don't come up for sale as they are older cards. It seems part numbers change frequently. Some part numbers that do come up are $50+ each. I do want to have lots of cards for sorting different projects so I don't want to spend that much per card. I've also read a lot of the Tascam forum posts on this and haven't seen any particular card part number mentioned. I've started reading the sticky posts and watching Phil's YouTube videos mentioned. It will take a while to get through all of those but of course, I need some cards now. LOL

I didn’t mention in my long-winded post:

It’s been my experience that those very long SanDisk part numbers vary by a digit or letter or two in almost every case.
I’m not sure that an exact part number match is critical, as long as you’re buying the same “model” card. I suspect the varying part numbers have to do with production runs and so on…🤷‍♂️

That's what I figured as well. I just bought some of these:

and some of these:

I also bought a case organizer:

I had a 32GB SanDisk Extreme (not the pro) 32GB SD in my Zoom R8 and I did a full rather than quick format in the DP-32SD. Boy does that take a while.

Yeah…the [FULL] format does take a while…but probably a good idea when formatting a card for the first time (to install the system files the DP needs, and the proper file structure (which is not the same as a computer uses).
But after that, I’ve often used the “quick“ format, and had no ensuing problems. And it takes barely a minute, even on a 32GB…
