After bouncing 6 vocal tracks to 1 Stereo track, I cannot get the original source tracks to unmute even after I recorded over two of them. All six mute lights stay on no matter what buttons I push or un-push. I can hear the new track recordings if I solo them, but they will not play back in MultiTrack, Mixdown etc. Tried switching machine off, then restart, but still they mute and stay mute-lit. Help!

Welcome to the forum.
Step 1. Watch Phil Tipping's video tutorial on creating a factory reset template. (In the Video Tutorials sticky section of this forum.)

Step 2. Export all your song's tracks to Audio Depot.

Step 3. Load your factory reset template.

Step 4. Create a new song and import all your tracks from Audio Depot.

I also suggest you make sure you're running the most current firmware, and that you're using a TASCAM tested/approved SD card. More on these can be found in the Equipment Tips sticky.

Thank you Mark - that did the trick, though I can't find way to navigate to the "sticky" section of the forum or Phil's videos. Just did the initialise in preferences and all is tickety-boo. I dumped all the tracks over to computer as well just to be safe.

Just click on this forum and look at the topic list. The sticky posts are always the first topics in this, or any other forum. They have a little pin icon.
