MX2424 internal scsi cable question

MX2424
I recently came back to my trusted MX2424, and the drives didn't mount. I looked inside and the terminator had broken away from the top of the internal drive to which it was apparently fixed with glue. I could get the drives to mount by taping the terminator together with gaffer, but it wasn't reliable.

As the terminator is not a plug type, I ordered a new ribbon cable with an optional plug-on terminator. Using this, the drives failed to mount.

I have no reason to doubt the new cable, but not having lived in 'scsi-land' for many years, I'm wondering whether there could be any aspect of the new cable or terminator which might not suit the MX2424. Needless to say, I've inserted and removed the cable several times to make sure it was fitting properly.

I also tried fitting a plug to the terminator end of the original cable and attaching the new terminator to no effect. This could mean my attempt to fix the new plug wasn't good, or the new terminator was faulty or not compatible.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
