In a sticky post:

it is stated:

Model 12/16/24: PROBLEMS WITH D.A.W. CONNECTIVITY
(e.g., only able to record small snippets with ASIO; unable to playback at all; completely frozen unit)
  1. Use a shorter USB cable.
  2. Use a shielded USB 3.1 rated cable from a reputable company.
The Model16 and Model24 cannot use a USB 3.1 cable. They have a USB B port, which is only USB 2.

I would have added to the original post, but comments are disabled.

From the OM for the Model 24
* This unit cannot be used with USB 1.1. Use a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port.

To the best of my knowledge, the difference between USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 is the transfer speed: 5gbps v. 10gbps. Both operate the same using USB-A, USB-B, or any of the various micro or mini connectors.

But if I'm misinformed we'll update the sticky post.

This is a USB 3 cable. The "B" side will not fit in the USB port on the Model16 or Model24. The Model12 has a USB C port, which is USB 3.1 compliant.

This is referring to the port on your computer. A USB 3 port on a computer is backward compatible with USB 2.

This is from page 49 of the Model24 manual:

To connect with a computer, use a Type-A to Type-B USB2.0
cable to connect the USB port on the back of this unit to a USB
port on the computer.

It matters. Many things are not actually backwards compatible, especially when it comes to audio. Thanks for the correction @kenact.

This issue is not about the connection to the computer - this is about the device connection. USB 3 cables have a different, specific connector that is not backwards compatible with 2.0.

The post needs to be changed.

Edit: The post has been edited.
