This isn't 2001. The "Linux To Replace All Desktops" revolution that started back then failed well over a decade and a half ago. Mac and Windows for the most part are extremely reliable, stable and widely supported. Lost focus? Microsoft specifically reached out to the music community when developing Windows 10 to address our needs and did so by improving latency without driver change as well as improving Audio and MIDI API's. I'm not going to speak for everyone but I would bet the majority here, especially the Windows users, are experiencing a very reliable setup. If there is any reason for a DM user to move to another OS it would most likely be those few Mac users having FW driver issues. If those users did move to another OS they would move to Windows, not Linux. I'll go further to say those users would probably abandon the DM mixer first before abandoning the Mac. If you wanted to use the firewire card in Linux, its not possible as there aren't any drivers for it and Tascam will not release code. Lastly, abandoning many other programs and plugins that aren't supported in Linux is not an desirable option. I'd much rather be making music than playing the role of a tech support guy trying to make a circle fit in a square. This makes no sense to me but hey, this is just one man's opinion. As far as Windows/Mac DAW software goes, the industry standards are already out there and they beat the pants out of anything on the Linux platform in terms of reliabilty and functionality. And if you didn't want to spend a lot and you need reliability, support and great performance on either platform...Reaper.
