Tascam FW-1804
Hi all, I am trying to resurrect an FW-1804 that has the common issue:

"All Led's illuminated on boot (and stay on), firewire LED - 3 x flash then 5 x flash unable to connect to computer (tried on Windows 7 x86 and G4 Macintosh OS9 with same result) - stuck in continual firewire LED 3 x/ 5x flash loop"

I have had all the usual caps described in these forums replaced to no avail - the unit continues to not want to connect via firewire.

I would like to locate a circuit diagram and service manual for the FW-1804 in order to diagnose and rectify the fault to resurrect this unit if someone has it somewhere available please.

Thank you,

Motu

What FW chipset are you using in your PC? From what I understand, it needs to be a TI chipset and that's all I've ever used with mine.

Also, are you using an OEM power supply?

The same issue occurs on my Macintosh g4 as well - firewire card in Windows machine is a via chipset.

Unfortunately not an OEM power supply either - generic 12v 2.5amp

Probably the best bet on your PC would be to swap out the FW card you have for a TI based card. I looked around and saw that those flashing lights more than likely means a bad firewire card. You can still find PCI firewire cards by SiiG and StarTech on Newegg and Amazon for not much money or see if you can catch one on Ebay for cheap, just make sure it's got a TI chipset.

Ok thanks mister Jones, I will see what I can find regarding a ti chipset firewire card.

This doesn't explain why the tascam exhibits the same fault when plugged into my g4 macintosh running os9 (manual states this is a compatible machine - firewire 400 is standard on the g4) - the Tascam also exhibits the same fault (all LEDs and 3x/5x firewire led continuous flash loop) when not plugged into any computer?
