Recording a full band with the Model 12, is it right for me?

Greetings Tascam heads!

Short version: Do the Model 12's stereo input channels 7/8 and 9/10 work effectively as mono XLR inputs capable of micing guitar amps with dynamic microphones? I need at least 8 mono tracks to record my band.

Longer version:

After learning the basics of MTR on a 424 Portastudio, I'm about ready to purchase a Model 12 with the goal of recording a full rock band in stereo without bouncing and erasing previous tracks. I've lurked the board and reviewed the OM to the best of my ability, but I'd appreciate some clear answers from other users as to whether the Model 12 will suit my needs, which I would think are pretty common. I understand the M12 has 8 XLR combo jacks and 10 inputs, but I am confused about whether 7/8 and 9/10 will work well for my purposes, since I don't intend to record stereo keyboards or line level inputs, and I heard the preamps are different on these channels.

I want to record live, in a small room, with everyone wearing headphones
1. DOH L (condenser)
2. DOH R (condenser)
3. Snare (dynamic)
4. Kick (dynamic)
5. Bass DI unit, XLR
6. Vocals (dynamic mic, does not need to be recorded live, to avoid OH bleed)
7/8. Guitar 1 (instrument cable direct into the combo jack, as a scratch track to be overwritten later with an XLR dynamic mic'd amp)
9/10. Guitar 2 (instrument cable direct into the combo jack, as a scratch track to be overwritten later with an XLR dynamic mic'd amp)

This sounds relatively straight forward and minimal to me, but wanted to double-check before I ordered the unit. I know the Model 16 would provide additional inputs but I prefer the price and size of the 12 for portability. I'm open to arguments for the 16 if it's really necessary for my project. I do have access to a DAW I could dump to if I needed to mixdown or bounce, but it also sounds like the unit has a built in mixdown on 11/12, which would allow me to erase the drums and add more tracks, if I desired. Like maybe a second vocals layer or a sample.

I hope my question is clear, I just want to record a full band with 2 guitars and 4 mics on drums with the Model 12 without bouncing, thanks everybody,

Welcome @baddestbrain, yes your recording plan is well done on the Model 12.
IMO after recording DOH 1&2, which I guess should make a stereo pair, it would make sense to swap tracks 1-2 with either 7-8 or 9-10 and make some room for overdubs. If you need more channels/tracks then go for the Model 16 or 24, full analog boards at the cost of no MIDI sync and no embedded track swap function (job easily done on a pc).

On the Model 12 channels 1 to 6 have slightly better mic preamps than 7 and 9 with a smidge more gain, so it makes sense using the mono channels for less sensitive/more quiet microphones. Guitar amps can provide plenty of sound pressure so input 7 or 9 is fine. IMO

That's great news, thanks for the tip about swapping 1-2 with one of the stereo tracks, now I even have some extra room to get creative with, thanks for the quick reply Max! The M16's Extra tracks would be nice but I should be able to make 8 work, knowing now that all 8 XLR inputs function more or less equally.

Side note: XLR input jacks are intended for microphone, 1/4" TRS input jacks are intended for line/instrument level. XLR and TRS inputs have different sensitivity and max gain, read specifications on the manual beforehand.
