TASCAM DM 4800

Hi to all, tonight I was working on DAW( Studio One 4) on my DM 4800, suddenly all lights turned out. All blank and on the display it was written; "Panic System Error" it is on the attach. Did anybody had this situation? I've just turned off, now it is all normal again, really weird.

Mh, never seen it (reported) before, but it clearly points to a memory problem. Must be high level if all the lights go out and only this display shows.

Maybe you can see if the mixer passes the tests at the Diagnostic - or factory reset - page. You get there by pushing Shift and number 1 and 2 buttons under Output Assign, while powering up the mixer. The SRAM Init functions are also the factory reset tests.

Hi Arjan P, it does not with LPX and Cubase. It does only with "Studio One 4" maybe I did somthing wrong again?? Just before I did SRAM test was all O.K. I'll do it again. Btw, where should I reported? There is no more Tascam DM 4800?

Well, I was assuming this just happened only once - and in that case I would say it is a random failure inside the mixer. If you say it happened more than once and only with Studio One, it becomes even more of a mystery. I see no way the mixer can see a difference in the software you use on the DAW end..

BTW, there is nowhere else to report.. We're on our own with these mixers, they were discontiunued years ago - ofcourse, for repair you might try to contact Tascam. In this case, if it only happened once, I'd forget about it and move on.

HI Arjan P, thx for the reply. I have also sent it to Presonus, as it is a week end, they'll sure give answer beginning of the week. It happened again, with "Studio One 4". My Firewire card on DM 4800. I've adjusted Stereo(Main Out) on "S.O.4" So my Firewire 1+2 was totally red and Mixer was out totally. But this time, all the led's wasn't out, but Mixer was unusable. I had to turn off again. I think there is something on the setup of "S.O.4" which DM4800 don't like it.

Do you have any midi cables connected to your DM? I had a similar thing happen and it was system exclusive messages being sent from a keyboard that made my DM go crazy. I just filtered sys ex out and problem gone.

Hi Juzz, yes, to have a Time code, it is is on from my DM. And it works, with Logic and Cubase 11. I don't remember, if S.O.4 Midi sys ex file was filtered out. I've just uninstalled "S.O.4" and it is all fine again. Well, I only had a problem with "S.O.4".
