Hello
Hope everyone is fine here ;-)
i have 2 questions regarding my new purchase, a lexicon MPX 500 : i saw Phil’s vidéos and i know how to plug (cable from effects send 2 -> lexicon input and lexicon output -> tascam / effect 2 on post , master 2 at 127) and... it works

But :

1) how can i get a stereo reverb ? On a guitar ( mono signal) or a synth (stereo signal)

2) Is there a way to hear only the wet track and to twist the buttons live instead to be obliged to push « record », hear dry and wet tracks in the same time, mute the source track to hear the result of the effect applied ...

Hope it is clear

Thank you

For #1, assuming the lexicon has stereo inputs/outputs, you need to use both of the DP-24 Sends (be sure to turn off the Reverb/Delay/Chorus in the Effects Screen). However you can use only Send 2 if the Lexicon returns a stereo reverb from a mono source. In either case the Lexicon has to use two DP-24 Inputs for the returns.

For #2, you can hear the DP-24 Inputs without going to Record Ready by assigning the Inputs to the Stereo Bus.

Phil Tipping's free video on using the DP-24 as a live mixer (found in the Stickies section) has more that may be helpful.

Bobby, that unit is dual channel, so you'll need both sends to the inputs. Obviously, you'll need to return both outputs to inputs in the DP. But, make sure to press the input select buttons and use the pan control on the Mixer screen to pan the returns hard L/R. Otherwise, assigning them to the stereo bus and stereo tracks will be mono. If you're hearing the effects returns and they are not stereo, they are panned center.

If i select « stereo » i hear dry +wet signals
If i select « effect send 2 » i only hear the dry signal
Can’t i hear only the Wet signal ? It would be easier to finetune the amont of effect

I recommend you look through the Production Tips sticky for ways to hear the wet signal only. While the Tips focus on the DP-24's internal effects, some of those techniques can be applied to using an external signal processor as well.

It also depends on how the Lexicon processes the dry/wet signal ratio. The user manual should address that.

I just watched again phil’s Videos but i can’t see my reply in it

And the lexicon manual is not helping at all ...

It appears that i get what i wanted when i switch from ´post’ to ´pre ´...

So to recap for the lurkers and help others who may use the Forum's Search function in the future to find this thread:

After watching Phil's video, you routed the instrument signal via Send 2 into the Lexicon, and the Lexicon output signal was returned to one of the DP-24 Inputs.

You missed the importance of the part of the video instructions that described the difference between "Pre"-fader and "Post"-fader and using the Block diagram to understand signal flow.

You set Send 2 to Post, thus requiring the fader with the dry signal to be raised in order to get the signal to the Lexicon, and which also sent the dry signal to the Stereo Bus along with the Lexicon wet signal returned to the DP-24 Input.

You realized your error and changed the instrument Send 2 to Pre, (and, I assume, you lowered the dry signal fader to Off) so that you could hear only the Lexicon return on the Stereo Bus.

Although you didn't say, it appears:
The Lexicon dry/wet ratio is controlled by the "Program/Global" Mix settings.
The Lexicon Mix setting was on "Full Wet" and did not return a mix of dry/wet.

Is that about right, Bobby?

Is there any advice you may want to add that might help others who have a similar issue in the future, and who do a search and arrive at this thread?

Thank you Mark for this clear recap.

Yes it is accurate.

- I’ve understood now the difference between pre & post, even if i don’t really know when i could use « post » in my workflow

- lexicon dry/wet ratio : yes, controled by the program/global mix settings

- lexicon mix setting : NOT necessarily on « full wet » it depends on the preset chosen

- advice : don’t forget to put the send effect on « off » when you’ve finished aplying effect and when it is recorded otherwise you could be confused if you wanna repeat the process on another track.

That s all for this one ;-)

Thanks

@Bobbydebarbes post is the normal mode for FX sends when mixing as it preserves the relationship of the FX with the source signal.
