Yes I am ignorant in that I don't know some stuff, but I am trying to become more knowledgeable...
Keschun: Can I play midi drums or use midi drum loops and record them directly into the Mod16? OR do I need to record the drum tracks in a DAW (Reaper) and export them into the Mod16?
To put it another, perhaps more confusing, way, I have an Akai MPD218 controller and I create drum tracks by finger drumming in Reaper. Recently purchased the Mod16 and was wondering if there was a way to record these into the Tascam and "leave Reaper out of it"?
If you could provide some information such as "Oh yeah. Here's how.." or "Nope. Cain't be did." I would be mucho appreciative of your efforts to communicate with me. Be good humans as I strive to mesef.

The Akai MPD128 controller sends MIDI messages to other MIDI devices, for instance a sequencer like Reaper. The MIDI messages in Reaper are then sent to some sound generating device like a hardware or software synth/sampler creating the music that was played on the Akai.

The Tascam Model series mixers record audio only, not MIDI, ie they’re not sequencers.

So, no, you can’t omit Reaper in this scenario.

Logrinn,
I appreciate your reply and the valuable information! Thank you! I figured that might be the case but it's great to know the factors that make something work or NOT. Thanks for the educationification of a learning human like me. Peace to all creative humans who add art to the world.

You can record the audio that's generated in Reaper from MIDI and the VST instruments onto the DP, and then ditch Reaper after that if you want to.

Ha HA! Me stupid brain figures something out: Monitor out from Audio Interface to Line In on desired Tascam channel yields recordable signal. It's ALIVE, I tell You, ALIVE!!
One I was dumber, now I'm just dumb.
