I'm in the process of some workflow transition and adapting to a more mobile recording setup. I've been in my room for over 10 years. I've pretty much refined the place as much as I can but I'm seeking new horizons. Over the years I've had a number of clients ask me about doing something in a remote location. I've been successful at keeping the work in-house but as I've cultivated my workflow toward a mostly live style of work I'm thinking of going the route of a few others and developing a powerful mobile setup.
As a part of this transition I've been building a case for my DM4800 and would like to just leave it in the tray all the time. The console sits on an internal tray with a doghouse on the back to protect the connections but I'm wondering about ventilation. Currently my DM3200 sits with the bottom fully exposed and I've never had any heat issues. In my current tray the mixer will be on a sheet of plywood resting upon 2 inches of foam. Should I be worried about air circulation? This is pretty much similar to sitting on a solid table top that's not particularly open on the bottom but given the history of these consoles I'm wondering if I building a recipe for problems. I have a few ideas for how to get some air to circulate.
The style of the case is open on the front so the there's a front lid and a top lid. I could leave a gap in the foam beneath the and vent the tray but I'm wondering if I need to or not. Anyway, I'm curious of your efforts to defend against heat.
