FW 1884 Dead

My FW 1884 went blank, with the exception of the stop light on the transport, and faders 6 and 8 went to the infinity position. No other indicators or lights. This happened after I did a software upgrade..the unit accepted the upgrade, and after cycling power, it came up with no indications of any problems. However, I left it on, while I left the room, and when I returned, the unit had the above indications..and would not reboot..there is no FW connection, so how do I flash the memory with the operating system? Any ideas? I am proficient with component level troubleshooting, and have found all voltages to be perfect. Are there any on the "back door" methods to accessing the memory for os rollback?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

FW-1884 RESET

1. With the 1884's power OFF
2. Hold down the following buttons:
PAN, FLIP, AUX3, AUX4 and simultaneously power on FW1884.

Updating the firmware with the same version is the "Kiss of Death" for the 1884...
