anyone using their DM...NOT using "input bypass?" If so how and why are you using it that way?

Been using mine in input bypass but would like to setup a template where I can use the onboard reverb FX for simple monitoring when tracking.

For some reason I can't get my aux sends bussed internally and back up on a pair of channels using input bypass when tracking. Is there a way to do this?

I would also have lots more control over headphone mixes this way wouldn't I? I really don't like using input monitoring from the DAW side at all of I can avoid it. Let me know your thoughts...

Maybe I misunderstand, but what you want to do does not exclude Input Bypass. In my case, I use Input Bypass to send all M/L inputs directly to the IFFW outputs (which is done in the Output Slot screen) and therefor to the DAW. At the same time I use those M/L inputs for direct monitoring, either with or without FX and sends for headphones etc. (done in the Input screen).

Ah so you can still monitor in "input bypass"? I was under the assumption the input signal bypasses the faders, EQ's, aux sends etc in this mode. Mostly because my fader has no control over the signal when I'm tracking this way as well as the fact that I cannot get signal to and from the internal effects.

I am monitoring from the headphones outputs on the DM. However if I record on a track and play back...all of a sudden I have FX and fader control using the same routing.

I tried the same with an outboard FX unit. Routed everything and no signal when monitoring the input. But once I've recorded on that track and play it back I see the meters for aux sends moving in TMC and hear the FX. Am I misunderstanding something here?

No, look at it this way: the signal comes in at a M/L input, then is digitized and copied. One digital copy goes into the desk where you can use fader, EQ, effect etc for monitoring. The other digital copy directly goes to the selected output that was selected for Input Bypass. To this copy you can do nothing, which is exactly what you want for recording (at least, that's what I want).

Ok got it. I must just have something routed incorrectly which is not allowing me to monitor the internal FX then. Thank you very much for the clarification!

@Arjan P

Thank you so much for your clear explanation and help! I figured out the problem based on your post. I've been incorporating external pres for certain recording situations as well as an external TC FX unit over SPDIF.

Turns out I had my external pres coming into the DM via asn returns 1-4 but they were NOT routed using input bypass. Not sure how I did that! That's why fader movement had no effect on those input channels.

I've also been attempting to take advantage of the spdif port for reverb monitoring in this scenario so when I was sending the aux signal over spdif, of course it had no effect as well because the signal was going straight out to the converters (iffw) instead of passing through the desk.

I hope this can be helpful to future DM users. Thanks again Arjan. Much appreciated!
