For now she securley sits on my rack in my project studio. Wish I could get her IN the rack! Got to find me them ears. Too bad I don't my new desk after all, it would have really been nice now with the 8 track.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() BTW- Don't ever buy tape from Neeman Media. They are horrible people to deal with, at least they were for me. I will never ever support that company again. On top of it I still don't have tape. Ordered it last Tuesday, shipped on Wednesday and still no tape, no tracking # , phone calls, no emails, no nada. That outfit is truly a poor example of business. Just 1 personal Heads Up. I am looking for a tape supplier I can bulid a relation ship with. If you know of any great ones or your personal favorites from the list, please pipe up. That would probably be a great pinned topic. Peace. -------------------- Rodney Gene / Sound Preacher

Looks good Rodney. Very nice studio from what I can see. Are those inside monitors Yorkvilles?
I've had very good service at Tapeworks Texas -- fast shipping, friendly, good communication, etc. Prices aren't the lowest I know of, but I like dealing with them. http://tapeworkstexas.com/quantegy___audio.html This post has been edited by Beck: Apr 21 2004, 10:24 PM |

QUOTE(The Ghost of FM @ Apr 22 2004, 12:08 PM) Looking good, Rodney! Here's a shot of my studio. In it you can see my 38 to the left, the MS16 in the center top and my two M312B's cascaded together to form my desk. Hey Ghost!!! That whole shot just screams vintage! Even the Curtains look from the same ERA!! I couldn't be sure I wasn't looking in on the studio where Ted Nugent recorded Cat scratch Fever! Beautiful. I need to move my room around (which is about 3 times bigger than those shots) and I am adding a second room for drums soon. All things considered, Beck, the inside Speakers are Tannoy Reveal Actives. The outer ones are Yamaha MSP5's, Yamahas NS10 replacement.(Only with better low-end). Both have fantastic imaging but the Yamahas are stunning in thier imaging. The Reveal are just great for everything. Still getting used to them for sure. Rodney, I hate to admit this but, those curtains are even older then the equipment by about 20 years! But, they are clean, in good shape and do the job they were put into service for. Besides, the sea of green, I find calming when I am in there, unless I am hung over! Recorder; Thanks for your addition to the gallery too! I've, of course seen this one before but, I never get tired of looking at 300 series mixers for some strange reason? Cheers! |

Nice setup boys!
Man looking at all of that 'classic' gear is making me jones a little more. Recorder AND Ghost, what is it about the 300 series you like? There appears to be 12 channels, 4 busses and masters is that right? I wouldn;t mind having a total analog setup and the new 8 track has way overtaxed my inputs (plus I am using an external 8 channel sub) Please...If I were looking for a cool analog board to run my TSR....Please suggest. Thanks! Rodney -------------------- Rodney Gene / Sound Preacher

Rodney,
I think the popularity of the 300 series of mixers is in large part due to it's flexibility, solid as a rock construction quality and lastly it's sound quality which was first rate professional, in every sense of the word. Originally, when the M312B was new, it retailed for $3400.00 US. In Canada, it sold for close the $5000.00 Canadian. Comparing it today's contemporaries like Mackie, which sell for considerably less is a small clue to their overall solid, no compromise design. The key features of the M312"B" or M320"B" would include; - Phantom power on all channels - Separate line/mic trim controls - Additional unbalanced line level inputs on all channels - 8 dedicated tape return inputs which can be routed to the main mixer channels or their own 8x2 sub-mixer with separate aux mix sends. - 4 Aux sends in total - Effects send and dedicated stereo, panable effects return channels feeding the stereo buss - PFL & AFL solo systems - Dual sweep parametric controls + 12Khz shelving control on each channel strip, by-passable by push button. - TRS insert points, post eq and all main channels, all recording busses and on stereo mastering buss. - Balanced outputs as well as -10db connectivity on all recording and stereo busses. - Additional inputs for two mastering decks - Complete control room monitor selection with separate level controls for headphone feed - Slate and studio talk-back system for full two way communication between control room and talent areas - Cascade inputs to all busses, auxiliary and effects busses so that two or more boards may join together to completely function as one desk, as I have mine configured. - 100mm faders on all channels and busses. Plus more that escapes me at the moment! When this series was originally introduced, it was geared toward the smaller budget professional studio market and as well pitched for PA and radio work. They're very clean, musical, very reliable and designed to work 24/7. Of note too; the original non "B" models did not have phantom power which were released in the early 80's. The "B" series was in the line from the late 80's into the early 90's. Considering that many of these boards can be found on Ebay for around $300 bucks, it's a no brainer. Cheers! flamethrowerstudios,
If you could please resize your image down to about 40Kb as we have fairly firm rules about file size around here. It really slows things down for those on dial-up to load the pictures. If you're unsure how to do this, PM me or Rodney and we will assist you. In the mean-time, I have edited your post to keep it in compliance. Thanks & nice set-up by the way! John flamethrower studios http://www.prayerfurnace.org/100_0131.JPG Hey John, Nice console desk..!! I was supposed to have one built this week and it didn't work out... I have few questions if you don't mind? 1. What kind of console is that? 2. Where are your speakers? 3. Do you mix in that room? It seems like that concrete would really hard on the enviroment. Of course I can't see the rest of the room? 4. Is that 1" a 4 track? Anyway, great looking setup. What's your gig???? Peace, Rodney -------------------- Rodney Gene / Sound Preacher

I was told by Mike at Sytek that the console was originally sold to the CBS affiliate in Atlanta. It was modified to all Elco connections, much to Mike's and my surprise. 2. We have more than one set of nearfields. Yeah looking at the picture makes me wonder where they are too. 3. Yeah, we mix in there. The room is treated with baffles/diffusers that you can't see in the picture. Plus it is carpeted wall to wall. 4. Nope, thats a Tascam 48 ob 1/2 eight track. I have the DBX units for it as well. My gig? Studio owner/partner with the guy that owns the space. Also play guitar. Check out the site, I'm getting it pretty well fleshed out. Best, John Flamethrower studios |

QUOTE Check out the site, I'm getting it pretty well fleshed out. John, I would like too but I am on 56k dial-up and those images you have are pretty huge, takes forever to load 1 picture. You know I would like to make a suggestiion if you don't mind.... resizing the file size doesn't affect the quality for web. They could easily be 20k and look fantastic. Right now they are over 250k. Dial-up users like me (and still majority of america) will just leave the site. I can help if you'd like. It wouldn't take but a couple of minutes...Just say the word. I got the 312 mixer mostly cause I wanted to go all tascam gear and ghost and Reel said they where good mixers.
I had the Mackie 8 buss and I will have to say to my ears "which are not that great anymore" the tascam just sounds better and the eq is very musical if that makes any sense. The best way I can exsplain it is its clean with out being hash sounding like my last big mixer. And besides that its pretty! |

Nice setup, Rodney!
I was glad to see that you're also using Tannoy Reveal Active monitors. I did a side-by-side comparison of 12 different pairs of nearfields at a major music store in Nashville, and the only thing that sounded better to my ears was a pair of Genelec 1029As. The Tannoys, however, blew away anything else they had for under $1000/ pair. Rack mount rails for the TSR-8 are getting hard to find. They suface ocassionally on E-Bay, but are usually a bit pricey. I fabricated mine from some 1/8" x 2" angle aluminum. It's always nice to have access to a machine shop. I can give you some dimensions, or even an Autocad file, for them, but first I'd have to remove the deck from the rack, then remove the rails from the deck to get the measurements. If you have a tough time finding some, let me know, and I'll either give you the dimensions, or possibly fab a pair for you. I've posted elsewhere on the BBS a source for tape than I'm very pleased with. The service is excellent, and the prices are moderate. They charge $36.50 for a 2500' 10 1/2 " metal reel of 1/2" Ampex 456, and charge $29.40 for the same stuff on a "pancake" hub, with no reel. This is all brand new, factory sealed tape. Their website is : www.totalmedia.com Avoid buying used tape, especially for critical projects, since a lot of the used tape I've gotten had the old Ampex "sticky-shed" problem. You really don't want to waste your time cleaning layers of gunk off the heads and rollers. If you ever do have this problem, here's a link to a site that gives step-by-step instructions on how to bake a tape to eliminate sticky-shed syndrome. Link: http://www.tangible-technology.com/tape/baking1.html Some other analog consoles to consider, which were made to mate with the TSR-8 and MSR-16, are the M-2516 (16 channel) and M-2524 (24 channel). I've gotten excellent service and very good sound quality from the M-2516 I've had for years. The only thing they lack that I'd like to have is TRS inserts on the main stereo outs. I'm currently rebuilding a M-2524 that UPS did their best to destroy by flipping the box end over end off the truck, and when I've got it up to spec, I may offer the M-2516 for sale. Hey, Flamethrower, that is one awesome console you've got there! I can only hope that I can afford something like that one day! |
