I have a DP-02CF. Recently I bent over and broke one of the pins in the CF slot. I've since had it repaired, but I can't access one of the partitions on the CF card that was in the slot at the time of the problem. It's an 8GB card, which had three Tascam native partitions (plus the FAT one) - the problem is with the third partition (1 GB). When I try to change to that partition, it gets to the point where it says "loading song" and then freezes with a message that says "System Error 50 Please power off". The only thing you can do then is power it down.
I guess either the partition or the files have been corrupted, and reformatting is the answer - only there is some stuff on that partition I would like to recover if possible. I am a computer professional and would be interested in trying to recover the partition but I have been unable to find any information about the Tascam proprietary format etc. Does anyone have any info or advice that might help? I realise there might be no way forward with this - just thought I'd ask ... |

One of the things that is unfortunate is that TASCAM has all of the ERROR Codes but it is damn near impossible to find out what they mean. When I have been able to find documentation on some products I usually find it on one of the foreign websites. I once had to take a german laguage document, change it from pdf to a text file and put it into a translator one paragraph at a time to find some error codes for the TASCAM 2488. I did a quick review of my files and only found one notation that I have ever made about the DP-02cf. Since I'm a moderator on the forums, I keep notes on TASCAM products that I see mentioned on the internet just in case someone has a question about them.I have a note on System Error 50. I didn't document where I got this from but the user claimed that he talked to a technician at TEAC who told him that the only way to address the problem was a reset back to factory defaults. Unless I miss my guess, that means that it is going to reformat your CF card. If it were me, before I did that, I think I'd slap a new CF card in there and make sure the unit was adequately repaired. You are probably right in surmising that the card was corrupted in the pin bending accident, and I guess you probably already tried a new card in it since you are a computer guy, but I thought I'd point that out just in case. -------------------- Keith Smith

Hi Keith
Thanks for that - yes I'm using another card, seems to work fine. I think I might keep the old one for a while and try to do some forensic-style investigation, see ifI can come up with anything ... Thanks again for replying. Ken QUOTE(KeithS @ Jul 31 2010, 06:44 AM) QUOTE(k3narthur @ Jul 30 2010, 04:07 AM) Does anyone have any info or advice that might help?
